Imposing Inferiority describes active barriers placed against another person’s recognition, access, collaboration, or advancement. The suppression is reframed as standards, fit, credential requirements, process, or institutional caution.
Within Cognitive Impasse, Imposing Inferiority protects threatened status. The target is not rejected because the work is weak, but because the target’s competence produces comparison, discomfort, or perceived rivalry.
The bias can appear in organizations that accumulate polished mediocrity while pushing away unusually capable contributors.
