Metopedia: Fact Checks
Appearance
This page indexes Metopedia fact-checks. A fact-check page evaluates a specific claim or media framing; it does not automatically endorse the broader worldview of either side.
Metopedia Fact Checks are structured reviews of specific public claims, media narratives, institutional statements, and contested assertions. They separate the claim from the source, the evidence from the interpretation, and the narrow factual finding from the broader political or cultural framing.
Standard method
A Metopedia fact-check should include:
| Section | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Claim | States the exact claim being checked. |
| Verdict | Gives a narrow rating or finding. |
| Evidence log | Lists the primary statement, documents, URLs, dates, and source chain. |
| Context | Explains what background facts are needed to understand the claim. |
| Techniques | Identifies framing, exaggeration, conflation, omission, or appeal to authority. |
| Counter-narrative | Gives the most accurate version of the claim. |
| Limitations | States what the fact-check does not prove. |
Current fact checks
| Page | Claim checked | Finding | Topic |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fact Check: Did Russia Admit the USA Landed on the Moon? | Whether Russia made a blanket admission that the United States landed astronauts on the Moon. | Misleading / overstated. Borisov reportedly verified a lunar soil sample, not the full crewed Apollo narrative. | Moon landing; Russia; media framing |
Fact-check verdict language
| Verdict | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Supported | The claim is directly supported by the cited evidence. |
| Mostly supported | The core claim is supported, but wording or context needs qualification. |
| Misleading | The claim contains a true element but frames it in a way that distorts meaning. |
| Overstated | The claim goes beyond what the evidence establishes. |
| Unsupported | The evidence supplied does not establish the claim. |
| False | The claim contradicts the available evidence. |
| Unresolved | Available evidence is insufficient, conflicting, or incomplete. |
